Veterans are not eligible for these services. Generally, legal assistance is provided to the following groups:

The aim of the Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) program is to avoid the unnecessary criminalization of mental illness and extended incarceration among Veterans by ensuring that eligible, justice-involved Veterans have timely access to Veterans Health Administration (VHA) services, as clinically indicated. VJO specialists provide direct outreach, assessment and case management for justice-involved Veterans in local courts and jails and liaison with local justice system partners.

The VA is expanding the number of locations where you can make medical appointments online. Online scheduling has been expanded to more than 100 VA facilities, both hospitals and Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The scheduling is available for both primary care and specialists.

Ring the bell: Veterans call for Veterans to help end suicide, All eyes are on a Veteran in the back of the hall talking about a guy from the old unit. His buddy had said “I’ll get over this.” But he never did. Then there was the final step, suicide. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines: active duty and Veterans of Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and peacetime stand together. There’s a brass bell made from a shell casing off of a war ship positioned at center stage. This is Suicide Awareness Night, and the hall is packed. VFW Post 3631 in Aurora sits at the crossroads of Colfax and Tower Road outside the city of Denver where the plains of eastern Colorado begin. Just over a year ago the post’s commander, Gary Anguilm, read in an article that 22 Veterans were dying by suicide every day. “Being Veterans we decided we wanted to do something about it,” Anguilm said.

VA Launches Program Aimed at Providing Veterans More Options in Claims Disagreements WASHINGTON — Today, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that it will launch the Rapid Appeals Modernization Program, or “RAMP,” with the goal of providing Veterans with the earliest possible resolution of their disagreement with VA’s decision on their benefit claims. RAMP will provide expanded opportunities for Veterans to enter the new, more efficient claims review process outlined in the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2017, which was signed into law by President Donald J. Trump on Aug. 23.

Starting March 17, 2014, veterans who have a VA compensation rating of 100% permanent and total (P&T) may receive expedited processing of applications for Social Security disability benefits.

Formerly homeless Veteran now scours the streets hoping to help others. On a cold night in late January, volunteers gathered at the Syracuse Rescue Mission in upstate New York. Among them was Roberto Alvarez, a VA employee and four years of service with the U.S. Army as an 11-Bravo infantryman– and despite the chill in the air, he was excited. “I look forward to this night every year,” said Alvarez. “It is a challenge but I know that by being here, I’m making a difference in someone’s life.”
